About Me
Hello! I'm glad you stopped by.
My name is "Jaime" after my father, who was born and raised in Puerto Rico; most of my friends now call me "James." I was born on the continental United States in the state of Oklahoma. We moved to a town called Bayamon on the island of Puerto Rico when I was six years old until I turned fifteen. While there, I became fluent in Spanish, while continuing to speak English with my mother. After living in PR for nine years, we moved back to the midwest and settled near my mother's family in the Kansas City (Kansas) metropolitan area. After completing high school at Shawnee Mission South, I attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where I completed bachelor of science and master of science degrees in electrical and computer engineering, with a specialty in communication systems.
Since then, I have continued in the technical field specializing in computer modeling and simulation of communication systems. These days, I am a consultant for a small company in Southern California. In addition to my simulation work, I also am engaged in software engineering as well as research and development of wireless systems.
I discovered NVC in 2002 and immersed myself in it ever since. It helped me to make sense of interpersonal dynamics which were perplexing to me up until then. Today, I find myself desiring to contribute to the well-being of society through my writing, group facilitation and personal interactions--based on what I've learned through my own personal journey and how NVC not only helps me to live congruently with my values, but to feel and inspire joy in others as we explore what it means to be human, and experiment with ways of relating that are more effective than others. The heart, where I believe one's personal truth resides, is my measure of success. I have found that my heart speaks to me in many ways--not only through my feelings and what needs are alive in the moment, but in the belief that we all come from the same source, thereby sharing in some basic "heart wiring" which NVC calls "needs." I believe that these words point to the intent of our creator in enabling us to experience what we've called "love." And this is a short description of the journey that I find myself on--pursuing ways to contribute to peace, deeper and more fulfilling relationships, while living in integrity through my conscience.
